AFRICAN LION

Here is an oil "sketch" of an african lion. I was going for the attitude of this great cat and a simple designed background.

Ambush

I wanted to paint a dramatic scene that showed one of the many predatory situations of the jaguar. Here a jaguar ambushes a pair of snowy egrets on the banks of a jungle river. Jaguar was all from imagination, I had some good ref on the birds, and the background ref came from a recent trip to the Peruvian Amazon.

Oakland Zoo

Here are a few sketches I did at the Oakland Zoo in an animal drawing class.

Well Its time to finally start this blog after all these years:) Here are some alligators drawn from life. The alligator was drawn at the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, and the alligator skeleton was drawn at The American Museum of Natural History in New York. Toned paper with ink.
